Technology Center
Technology at Third Street
Third Street School embraces technology as a powerful tool and important component for teaching and learning and providing opportunities to expand our learning far beyond the classroom. With the inclusion of our new technology curriculum and learning programs adapted and guided by ITG Technologies and our technology department, with enormous support from Friends of Third organization, we are committed to technology literacy for all students. We provide ongoing professional development for faculty, in-service training and technology workshops for parents and the community, and use of technology via each student receiving comprehensive technology instruction in our Tech Center, the school website, interactive web applications, electronic bulletin boards online for our community newletters and updates. Through the use of technology, Third Street will continue to support connection, communication, and environmental responsibility.
Technology Center
Third Street Elementary School boasts a state-of-the-art fully equipped Mac Lab that includes 34 new iMac computers, laser printers, media carts, and various multi-media equipment for student use and production. Students in K-2 receive at least 45 minutes of technology instruction every other week, and students in 3-5 receive at least 45 minutes of instruction weekly. Classroom instruction is multi-disciplinary and comprehensive as our technology department works to align all lessons to California standards and provide differentiated instruction in the lab. The Technology Center is open for an hour every day after-school for homework, research, and technology use by students, parents, and faculty of Third Street. Additional professional development workshops are given quarterly for teachers to develop skills and experience and parents. Please review our technology bulletin boards outside the Technology Lab regularly for updates, news, and events for our community.
Goals
The Technology department is dedicated to the development of Third Street's technology program with the inclusion of a Technology Committee comprised of faculty, parents, and administration to oversee the curriculum goals and direction of our technology program, along with our Technology Supervisor and Friends of Third Technology Co-Chairs. Since the different grade levels who receive regular instruction have different needs, capabilities, and applications of technology, the goals of our technology department include five key components to build their overall literacy and skills acumen: Research, Analysis, Communication, Productivity, and Creativity. By the completion of grade 5 at Third Street students will learn technology skills that range from the following: gathering information from electronic sources, internet ethics and Cyber safety, creating tables, charts, and matrices, utilizing freeware and online testing, developing PowerPoint presentations, correcting and enhancing photos, corresponding with e-pals internationally, gathering text and image resources, creating artifacts by applying principles of art and graphic design, and using technology to complete tasks in faster, more efficient, and more productive ways.
