Third Street Elementary School Handbook
Vision:
Our vision at Third Street Elementary School is, in partnership with our school community, to educate, challenge, and empower our students to become productive and responsible members of a changing society by providing a rigorous, forward-looking, and nurturing environment.
Mission:
It is the mission at Third Street Elementary School to help our students become good and well-balanced citizens of the world, adequately grounded in respect for self and others, problem-solving methods, critical thinking skills, the use of information and effective communication strategies with which to seek truth, enlightenment, beauty, and an appreciation of the past and its contributions to the future.
Beliefs:
- All children can and must learn.
- A home-school collaboration is necessary for a balanced development.
- All stakeholders should support students in becoming life-long, self-directed learners.
- Children learn in many different ways, and teaching methods should be flexible to accommodate this diversity.
Educational Philosophy of Dr. Suzie Oh:
- Schools should be learner-centered and learning centered.
- We must understand that a school is not a school unless all (students, teachers, and administrators) learn.
- Educational leaders have a moral obligation to be life-long learners.
- I believe that every child has a birth right to learn. All students can learn, must learn and will learn, regardless of socioeconomic status or ethnicity.
- We have to be customer-centric. Every investment we make has to touch the customers, our students.
- Student achievement should be the center piece of all our discussions and activities.
- Closing the achievement gap between our high-performing students and their low-performing peers continues to be our challenge.
