Parent Orientation

A parent orientation for all families was held on Friday, August 6. The meeting was recorded and can be viewed at https://www.thirdstreetschool.com/community-meetings.

Parent Handbook

Our 3rd Street Parent Handbook has been updated for the 2021-22 school year. Many of our policies and procedures have been updated so please be sure to review it. The parent guide is also available under quick links on our website's homepage.

Baseline COVID Testing

In accordance with the most recent guidance from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, LAUSD has determined that all students and employees, both vaccinated and unvaccinated, returning for in-person instruction must participate in baseline and ongoing weekly COVID testing. Baseline testing began on Monday, August 2 at stationary sites. More information can be found at https://achieve.lausd.net/covidtestingappt.

LAUSD has also scheduled a COVID Mobile testing team to visit our school. The next on-site testing day is Thursday, August 12. Please see the flyers below for details on both testing options.

Students may also test outside of LAUSD for their baseline COVID test. The test results can be uploaded onto the Daily Pass platform (guide available at https://www.thirdstreetschool.com/back-to-better). Students who test externally should bring a copy of their negative baseline test result on the first day of school.

New Webpage - Back to Better

Our school website, thirdstreetschool.com, now features a new "Back to Better" page which includes essential information (e.g. COVID baseline testing, exposure management protocols) and resources relevant to the 2021-22 school year.

Devices

This year, all students will have access to a device during the school day. Should a teacher assign homework or a long-term project that requires students have access to a device at home, the teacher will allow the student to take home a device should they need one. At the beginning of the year, teachers will survey their families to determine which families need a device and will handle the distribution of those devices.

Additionally, to our returning families, many of our devices that were loaned out last year to support distance learning have not been returned. In order for all of our students to have access to a device this year, it is critical that any devices that were loaned out be returned immediately. Also, of the devices that were returned, over 1/3 of our IPAD chargers and Chromebook chargers did not come back. Replacing these chargers is costly. We would greatly appreciate it if families that borrowed a device could return any chargers belonging to the school.

Classroom Assignments

Classroom assignments will be posted on our website on Friday, August 13 at 5 PM. A Blackboard Connect message with the link and password to access the classroom assignments database will be sent by Friday morning.
